The TRE D Meter: Monitoring the Energy Consumption of etworked Devices

In this paper we detail the TRE D meter, a tool for monitoring the power and the utilization of networked devices. Our solution is based on standard measurements and data export methods. The TRE D meter provides graphed energy consumption and load information of each measured device. After detailing the TRE D meter architecture, we report the main results that we have obtained by collecting measurements from a variety of devices. Our solution represents the starting point towards a more complex tool able to monitor a network infrastructure and to trigger energy saving techniques when traffic conditions change.
